James: Mr. "I Can Play
My Instruments But I Don't Belong Here"
The biggest puzzle to me so far is
the inclusion of James in Mission 4 Project. Okay, he can play the drums (with deadpan
disinterest, I might say) and has a wonderful voice. I have no problem with that.
My problem is that he is barking on the wrong tree. James is in genre far remote from the
genre Mission 4 Project is in: band music. James' vocal range is quite rare in young male
singers. He is a tenor whose vocal range strays near how lukthung singers sing. That's why
he usually sings easy-listening songs that border on the many aspects of love. The
progression of his music is somewhat understated , melancholic and balladic. I get a
picture of of someone who might be the next Thongchai McIntyre. He eminates a certain
adult maturity and gentleman behavior.
So, the question is: what is James doing in a rock band? Seems to be RS Promotions wanted
to combine their hottest guys into one mega-record. Doing ala Backstreet Boys might not be
enough to counter the combination of looks, credibility and talent the Grammy release
"Seven" has with Nat Myria, Nicole, Harutai, Tong, Mai, Amp, and Marsha;
Grammy's biggest female singers. To have some credibility, they had their hottest guys
play in a band.
If that is so, James is still the James we know in James Delivery and all his previous
albums. He represents one of 4 archetypes that women look for in a man. He brings in all
his gentleman qualities and provides just one of the many options teenage fans have.
Funny though, the instrument he plays (drums) doesn't really suit his image. The same goes
with the voice. It doesn't suit the music as well.
