The Chosen One: Dome Pakorn Lum

ARTICLE: Mission 4 Project : A Long Diatride -by Kamiya Kaoru (October 17, 2000)

A. Boys and their Toys

I first heard of an this RS Promotion album project from the Star Picture Discussion Board forum. Somebody posted that James, Joni, Voy and Dome would be working on an album together as a band. The title of the album, “Mission 4 Project” would have each of them play an instrument in the recording and performing all the songs in this special album. Before I started questioning the inclusion of four of RS’ good looking male artists, I suddenly had an epiphany. Back then, RS released a special album containing the hottest male acts of RS (the under 20 set) and during one of their concerts, I remembered that some (or all) of the guys included in Mission 4 Project  performed specific instruments.

Still, I didn’t remember (or maybe I had a dysfunctional memory) Joni or Voy performing. I was fully aware of Dome’s capability in playing the guitar and I remembered seeing James perform the drums at “The Next” concert. Seeing that Voy is their basisst and Joni as their  backup guitarist made me think that either they were long-time practitioners of those particular instruments or they took a six-month crash-course in instrument playing. Ha ha. A lot of people would agree with me the gleaming marketing move behind this album launch. And if we talk marketing, we talk market analysis, demographic analysis and yes, psychological analysis.

Boys, in their teens start getting exposed to MTV and many forms of  determinents of manhood. There is sports (soccer, basketball etc.), there is academics, video games, girls and of course the ultimate dream of playing in a successful rock band. Yes, a rock band. Why not a blues band?  Or even a classical band? Duh. Those are sissy bands. Most guys in their teens beg for Mom and Dad to buy them that dream guitar or drum set. They get a couple of of their friends and with dreams of success, they go on and play their hearts out hoping to imitate the successes of their rock idols and probably get the attention of the girl who always fails to notice them.

So, what’s wrong with that? Well, I am only here to analyze, its up to you to react to what I find out.

So there, we have a band. Now why these particular 4 guys? What do they represent? The next section tackles this.
