JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

(As approved by General Assembly on 3rd August’2000 at Bangalore  

 

Taekwondo has been included in Sydney Olympics-2000 as a regular Summer Olympics discipline for the first time. Taekwondo is fast becoming a very popular sport the world over amongst junior athletes, especially, after its inclusion in Olympics as a regular discipline.

TFI is committed to develop this discipline to place India amongst the leading Taekwondo nations in the world. Junior Scholarship Scheme is a step in this direction.

 

1.       OBJECTIVE

The main objective of Junior Scholarship Scheme is to encourage the upcoming junior Taekwondo athletes to acquire world level expertise and experience so as to acquire a place in the National Male & Female teams. The holders of TFI scholarship will be provided maximum possible help and coaching to win medals for India in International Events. Scholarship will in still a sense of pride and recognition amongst its holders and an example for other junior athletes to compete and find a place in this elite group.

 

2.       DEFINITIONS

Unless or otherwise specified in this document,

a) Federation means Taekwondo Federation of India in short called TFI affiliated with IOA, ATU and WTF

b) Scholarship means Junior Scholarship granted under Junior Scholarship Scheme in short called ‘JSS

c) Athlete means the one who fulfills the eligibility conditions under this scheme

d) Championship means the National Junior Taekwondo Championships conducted for boys & girls under the auspices of TFI

e) Member Unit means the member of TFI who are affiliated in accordance with TFI constitution.

 

3.       VALIDITY

JSS will be valid from the day it is approved by TFI Executive Committee & TFI General Assembly, subject to availability of funds.

 

4.       ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Gold and Silver medal winners of the Junior National Taekwondo Championships conducted under the auspices of Federation and fulfilling the following criteria will be eligible for Junior Scholarship.

A. AGE: Juniors  - 14 & below 17 years  

The age will be reckoned end of the year, when the championships are held.  (e.g. If an athlete is born on 25th May 1983, he can participate in any junior championships up to 31st December 2000 in 17 years wt. Category.)

Submission of age proof to the satisfaction of federation is a must.

Warning: Submission of wrong documents to claim scholarship will render the athlete liable of action including debarring from participation in future championships. If any athlete is released any scholarship under this scheme and later on it is found that he claimed scholarship furnishing wrong age proof will have to refund the entire amount along with certificate received by him under JSS, before he is considered for participation in future championships.

 

B. TFI REGISTRATION:  

Athlete should be registered with TFI on the date of scholarship and holder of poomse certificate from WTF. In case, he is not holding poomse certificate of WTF, he should appear before a Dan Promotion Board constituted by TFI within 6 months and qualify the Dan Promotion Test.

 

C. PARTICIPATION:  

Athlete should participate in the qualifying Junior National Taekwondo Championship as a member of team participating under the banner of Member Units affiliated with federation and a resident of area falling under the jurisdiction of member unit.  

NOTE: Scholarship is a helping gesture from TFI. It should not be misunderstood as a right of the athlete. Hence, the decision of TFI will be final under this scheme.

 

5.       SCHOLARSHIP

Athletes eligible for scholarship under JSS will be paid sums as under:

Gold Medallists      Rs. 200/= Per Month        (each weight category)

Silver Medallists     Rs. 100/= Per Month                        do

Gold medallists will constitute TFI JUNIOR “A” TEAM, whereas, Silver medallists will constitute TFI JUNIOR “B” TEAM.

 

6.       PERIOD OF SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship will be paid from the month the Championship is held. E.g. if the Championship is held in the month of Aug’00, the athletes qualifying for scholarship will be paid from the month of August’00 till the month prior to the one in which the next Championships are conducted i.e. if the next championships are held in September’01 the scholarship holders of August’00 championships will be paid till August’01 i.e. the month prior to September’01.        

 

7.       FACILITIES  

Scholarship holders will be eligible for the following special benefits:  

1. Members of TFI Junior A-team  & B-team will be eligible to participate in senior Male & Female National Taekwondo Championships. They will be considered as TFI team and won’t be counted towards the Member Unit team. Medals won by the TFI team members will not be counted towards the total points tally for deciding the team positions of the championship.

 

2. TFI will pay their entry fee, rail fare 2nd class to & fro from their place of stay to the city where Championship is held.

 

3. TFI will conduct special coaching classes for both the teams twice a year to keep them fighting fit at places to be decided by TFI. Failure to attend coaching camps without reasons to the satisfaction of Federation will render the athlete ineligible for further release of grants. The decision of TFI in such cases will be final and no further appeal will be entertained.

 

4. They will be required to form demonstration teams for giving presentations on special occasions and at the time of Championships to be decided by TFI. All expenses for demonstrations would be borne by the federation.

 

5. A-team members will be eligible for 50% concession & B-team members will be eligible for 25% concession in WTF fee for Black Belt certificates. This is only a one time concession and valid only for the period of holding of the scholarship.

 

8.       DISCIPLINE

Scholarship holders will be required to maintain the highest order of discipline to be an example for the other junior athletes. It will be mandatory for them to abide by all the directions issued by TFI. Any violations of above guidelines or acts of indiscipline will render them liable for action including stoppage of scholarship under this scheme.
