- My apolgies to you all for the lack of update recently but I have been pretty sick.
Things should be back up and running by Monday. 16/03/99 - Computer criminals swiped more that $100 million worth of computer data last year, according to a servey relased by Bay Areas reginal FBI office. Yeah, blah blah blah, click here. 16/03/99 - Heres a story on smashing the stereotype of the villainous hacker ?? Might be you thing might not, click here. Click here. 16/03/99 - Microsoft have posted a patch for the Windows NT bug that allows users to gain access to privileged file by exploiting a flaw in the screensaver. From Cnet and microsoft. 16/03/99 - Added a shit load of links to the links page so go take a gander. 12/03/99 - A little something I found on the McAfee web page. You can have a full virus scan !!!! You need to be useing ie3 or above and on a windows95/98/nt machine. You need to have your browser security setting, set to medium and be prepared to download some ActiveX controls, but to be this raises some points about inet secruity and what someone was to code something nasty. Click here. 12/03/99 - Macromedia Inc, have said they have patched a hole in its Shockwave 7 player that lets the company view users passwords and other private information. Macromedia designed the software to monitor users web habits so they can determine the most popular shockwave enhanced sites. While the program also sends the urls, etc, it also sends information such as passwords back. If you use Shockwave, did you know that this monitoring happens ?? More on the story here. 12/03/99 - Microsoft expect to report a loss of $400 million in revenue, in the march quarter, this mainly being to the delayed release of Office 2000, only leading to a total sales expectantcy of $4.2 billion, well whats $400 million to old bill ? More here. 12/03/99 - Many ISPs have united to get some software that is "too effective for its own good". GeoList Professional has been taken off the market as many spammers abused it and collected large email lists and spammed them. Click here. 10/03/99 - 3Com have been awarded a patent for their new Packet protection algorithm and addressing techniques for minimizong network packet loss. This brings the internet telephony one step closer to dial-tone quality and improves the quality of Internet-based phone calls, the packets that are lost, can be rebuilt much more quickly, thus allowing a converstation with out losing audio. You won't recieve thousands of pop up windows and all that other crap because I myself find that annoying - there is just the links on the side bar, you either click them or leave them, prefably I would like you to click ;) 10/03/99 - Microsoft have confirmed a Windows NT glitch which allows local users to gain access to sensitive data such as passwords and files. The glitch is triggered by malicious software that allows users to gain access to protected files via the system screen saver. When its lauched the malicious user can gain admin privileges that he wouldn't normally be able to do. Microsoft are working on a fix and say "it would be very differcult to pull to hack of remotely". More on the story here and the article from bugtrac.
