Search engines do not look at every website around the world
the moment you submit a web search. These search engines have
built an index of site information and it is in this index that
the engine searches. They have what is known as a spider or crawler
that is continually looking for new web sites. When a new site
is found, it is analyzed and information added to the index. It
may take months from the time you post a site until it appears
on a search engine. There are companies that specialize in posting
your information with search engines for a fee. You can actually
do the same thing yourself and on some for free. Most search engine
sites have a link which allows you to give your site information
directly to them to analyze. Many of the search engines are called
mega search engines. They not only search their own index, but
also the indexes of many other search engines.
