This is a collection of the names of all Vias identified as having been
born before 1800. Hyperlinks are provided to the source material
located elsewhere at this web site. Where various records are known
to pertain to the same individual, they are grouped under that individual's
name, and as such this page provides a personal chronology for many of
the early Vias. Where several individuals of the same name existed
and the record may pertain to more than one such named individual, the
name is repeated with the reference following.
Note that the entries from the Overseas
Vias page have not yet been indexed on this page. Only deeds
that we have tied to a particular Via have been added to this page.
Special thanks go to Judy Maupin Pons
for providing much of the information aggregation.

Judy Pons writes: One of the main
factors I used to try and sort these William's out was if they could write
their names. Looking at past deeds, etc. William Via, son of
Amer signed his name. He did so on a deed
in 1734 in Hanover County regarding the Glass family. He also signed
his name in 1760 when he sold land
to John Lankester. This is the William (brother of Margaret Via)
who bought 300 acres of land from
Daniel Maupin in 1760. On June 10, 1773 William Via Sr. and William
Via Jr. sold two parcels of land (75
acres and 26 acres) to Charles Goodman. William Via Sr. (son of Amer)
signed this deed. William Via Jr. signed with a mark. William
Via Jr. again used a mark to sign his will
in 1782.

several Williams of the 1700s.
