Libearty

Libearty, the campaign for bears is run by the World Society for the Protection of Animals, WSPA)

Despite the love for cute and cuddly teddy bears, it is very important for me, that our real bears are not forgotten.
For that reason, bearartist Rebecca Hurley and myself are having for the second time a fundraiser auction organized. Artist bears from all over the world are sold at auction to benefit Libearty.
Last year's auction of 29 artist bears, held at Christie's in London raised 4.200 Pounds Sterling for Libearty.
The goal for this year's auction is even more ambitious: 10.000 Pounds Sterling are needed in order to start building a bear sanctuary in Northern India. Bears rescued from bear baiting in Pakistan as well as dancing bears from circuses will find a new home here.
In total between 150 and 200 bears and bear related items will be auctioned at the bear show "The Event" at Alexandra Palace in London on October 31, 1998 at 6:00 p.m.
The auction will be held by London's auction house Phillips, Son and Neale.

Fiftynine, a 2 1/2" high grizzly lady and  3" Jules (Verne) the traveling bear stand on top of a music box that is decorated with a wolrd map and postage stamps. The tune that the box plays is "In 80 days around the World".
These are my two Libearty bears 1998. Jules of course has a lot of travel mementos, his diary, photoalbum and passport to prove that he is  a real globe trotter and has visited all five Continents.

My own Libearty bears, 4" Little Bertie and his  1 1/2 " companion Orso sold for  230 Pounds Sterling at Christie's last year.
