19. Kentucky Failed to get UIFSA enacted in its last legislative session. They plan to propose UIFSA in the '96 session.

UIFSA legislation passed but it will "ONLY BE EFFECTIVE" if we require States to implement UIFSA laws.

STATUS UPDATE: Kentucky has problems with their legislation. The legislation has to be resubmitted, therefore, KY will not be able to start UIFSA. The KY statute had a provision that stated that when Congress mandated UIFSA, then KY could implement the provision. The chief stature writer for the legislature said that Congress simply stated that the State should implement UIFSA or lose money. KY has a choice, therefore, KY plans to take out the part that mentions enacted if mandated by Congress and to add any updates. KY plans to go ahead with the training of staff but will not be considered an UIFSA state.
