"CONGRATULATIONS" to Ross Gerrie, President of Local 636 of the CAW for being the first recipient of our "A"HOLE OF THE MONTH AWARD! Mr. Gerrie is most deserving of this award, as he has displayed a blatant disregard for the workers of Kelesy Hayes Woodstock. However it was a close race between him and the Kelesy Hayes Plant Chairperson Peter Birmingham for this honour, Mr. Gerrie won out by a slim margin. Mr. Gerrie won out mostly because of his position as a labour leader in the community, who only seems to be looking out for his own interests. Not to take anything from Mr. Birmingham however, as he has showed that he is not looking out for the best interests of the people who elected him either. To win this award the recipient must display a bad faith action against the workin' people of Ontario, or any area in Ontario. Furthermore they must do something that goes against either a code of ethics, or allows the outcome of legislation to effect the workers of Ontario, or any area in Ontario.

Mr. Gerrie's winning performance stems from a conflict of interest in the negotiations a the Kelesy Hayes Beards Lane Plant in Woodstock Ontario. By accepting lavish gifts, and allowing the plant committee to also accept lavish gifts. Mr. Gerrie and the Union representatives involved were in direct conflict of interest during negotiations. There is no direct evidence to say that the union did not negotiate in good faith. However by accepting gifts these union members violated the National Constitution of the CAW, and left and appearance of a conflict of interest. In essance it looks as though they were bribed to try and push the contract through to the membership. We at BIG BRO' are still trying to find out if any criminal laws have been broken, and if and when we do find this out we will push for charges against all elected officials involved. Mr. Gerrie and all of the elected officials involved in this, have put a black mark on unionism in this Country by accepting these gifts. When the workin' people in this Province are being oppressed by Tory legislation, we want to know that our elected union officials are working for us, and not the Corporate Militia.

As BIG BRO' has said in the past, we are staunch supporters of the union way. However accepting bribes, gifts, lavish entertainment, when working as an elected official of a legal union is not the union way. This is the exact reason that people unfamiliar with unionism think that unions a crooked and dishonest. This could not be further from the truth, as most union officials do their job the right way, and follow the rules set out in our National Constitution. However when people like Mr. Gerrie, and Mr. Birmingham exist in elected positions, their actions like this only put the union in a bad light. With this in mind we union members now must decide if these are the kind of people we want representing us and our union way. Do we want union officials, who already enjoy good perks for their duties, accepting gifts and awards from the very companies that they negotiate with? These people get paid for their duties, and they do not deserve anymore than what they get under the rules. So to people like Mr. Gerrie, and Mr. Birmingham who just don't seem to get it. If you can't do the jobs you were elected to do without conflict, and disregard for the workin' people, maybe you should resign and find another line of work. Hey I hear Mike Harris may be looking for some MPP's for the next election, I think your experiance should serve you both well there!
Thank You
BIG BRO'
