Children's Ministry

Sunday School
for children runs from September through June, and is held before worship
at 9:45am. Our curriculum, "The Whole People of God",
is centered on the same Scripture lessons that will be read later in
worship, thereby deepening the children's experience of worship as well as
creating a link between the Sunday morning experience of children and
their parents. In addition to a nursery, there are four classes:
ages 4 Grade 1, Grades 2 and 3, Grades 4 and 5 and Grades 6 and upwards.
Midway through the worship service, Pastor Jeff invites the children to come forward for a special time of sharing and a prayer, after which the children may either stay in worship or go to child care. Our new Children's Choir rehearses each Sunday at 9:30am under the direction of Susan Serrandilla and Eunice Vega-Perez, and will be performing once a month in worship. The choir is open to children of all ages |

The Children's Ministries Committee, co-chaired by Dawn Barhite and Lisa Willis, meets monthly to plan activities that will involve our children in the life of our church. A Spaghetti Dinner on September 15th, raised $286 toward ministries for our children. The dinner provided folds with a much needed opportunity to be together and talk about what we were experiencing. Many thanks to the organizers. Among other activities, the committee plans Christmas, Halloween and Easter parties, fishing trips and summer picnics.
Birthday Dollars for Heiffer Project: Each Sunday during our children’s sermon a dollar will be donated to Heiffer Project for each person (child or adult) having a birthday (that we know of.) You can honor the person’s birthday by being the one who donates the dollar. Heiffer Project seeks to feed the hungry of the world by donating livestock (cows, goats, chickens, etc.) to impoverished villages. The livestock reproduce, so the gifts keep giving. (Thanks goes to Diane Morgan for the donation of the little church building to hold the dollars, and for the great idea!)
A Youth Fellowship consisting of youth from grades six through twelve, meets weekly under the leadership of the Drew second year seminary student, Eunice Vega-Perez, who works on our staff. The youth participate in Operations Acts of Kindness as well as in the annual World Vision 30 Hour Famine in February, to raise money for the hungry of the world.
Eunice will also be meeting with mothers of infants and young children on Mondays at 10am for sharing and spiritual support. All mothers are welcome with their children. The life of a mother can be very isolating and we need to be together. |
