Basil Poole III was born October 1, 1767 presumably in Anne Arundel county, Maryland. The date of his birth was determined from his grave stone in the Glenwood cemetery, Clarksville, Mercer Co. PA. The first record we have of him is in 1790 where he served on a jury in Montgomery county with his father. In 1793-1797 he is taxed on personal property in this county for the sum of 50 Ls. In the 1798-1812 assessement his personal property is listed as 46 Ls. In 1796 a Basil Poole is listed as a surveyor assistant in A.A. county, MD and it is assumed to be this Basil.
On January 9, 1800 Basil marries Ruth King. We don't know anything about Ruth's ancestry but there were many Kings at that time in the Montgomery county area. There is a deed dated January 11, 1802 where Basil buys 134 acres of "Cowpasture" for 100 Ls from the estate of Henry Griffith. It is assumed that this is the same land or nearby that of his father who owed to this estate 120 Ls. In 1807 (recorded 1808) Basil sells this land (adjacent to that of Charles Miles) to Richard Young for the sum of $900
About 1808 Basil and his family emigrate to Trumbull county, Ohio where in 1809 we find that Basil pays taxes in Bristol township. The next year he pays taxes in Coitsville township, Trumbull county and in 1811 he voted in the same township.
The children of Basil III and Ruth that were born in Maryland are: Clarissa born 1801 who married Solomon Holland; Matthias K. Pool born 1802; and Robert Nelson Pool born in 1805. In 1811 William Warren Pool was born in Ohio.
In 1816 Basil pays taxes on 165 acres in Coitsville township and this property is near by that of Michael and Susanna Keesecker who are the parents of Ruth who will marry Basil's eldest son, Matthias. Also nearby is land belonging to Hesse Browning Pool who had married Aaron Pool in December 1798 in Montgomery county Maryland. One can guess that Aaron could have been a brother of Basil because of their proximity in the two states. Aaron and Hesse had three daughters: Cordelia, Letitia, and Margaret.
Basil paid personal property tax in Trumbull county Ohio in 1827, 1829, 1831, 1833 and 1845 per the records at the Youngstown, Ohio library by Jacob Baldwin. Basil died at the home of his son William Warren Pool on 19 march 1850 in Mercer County, PA.
