circa
1928
Gennaro Vezza was
born in Naples, Italy on September 17, 1906. Soon after he and his
mother came to the United States to join his father and uncle Luigi. Growing up in New York's "Little Italy" and later in Union City, New Jersey, he endured many bouts with illnesses,
disease, and his father. He was the "big brother" to his 4 younger siblings and is sometimes best remembered for his legendary personality clashes with his father.
In the early 1930's, Gennaro married
Anna Marino and they
would have 2 boys, Albert and Vincent, but tragically Anna would not live
to enjoy life with her new family, she passed away soon after Vincent's
birth. Gennaro moved to Rochester, NY and later wed Henrietta Wisniewski.
They were blessed with a daughter, Ann in 1945.
Gennaro's
eldest son, Albert, is married to Kristine Mariano and they have settled
in the Boston area. Their 2 children, Michael and Amy, recently finished
their college education and are active in their respective careers.
Gennaro's son Vincent remains single
and is a research chemist for a Johnson & Johnson affiliate in the
Rochester, NY area. He spends a lot of his free time golfing and
skiing, though not at the same time.
Daughter Ann is married to Bob
McDonald and they have 3 children, William, Melissa and Patrick.
The best of all possible worlds, Bob has a job as a pharmacist with a drug
chain that allows him to split his duties between the Rochester branch
during the summer months, and one of their Florida branches during the
colder months.. Each of their children remain close to home while
pursuing their dreams.
On
August 26, 1996, two weeks shy of his 90th birthday, Gennaro passed
away peacfully in his sleep leaving a wife, 3 children, 5 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a family legacy of courage and determination to beat all odds..
