Fairfield

Fairfield United Church had its beginning in 1838 when five men in the area decided there needed to be a place to worship. Acting as trustees for the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Canada, they purchased, for five pounds, the land now used for Church and cemetery.

The first building, frame structure, was built in the spring of 1839. They outgrew this small building, and for a cost of $4,000 erected the present building in 1868. Originally the organ and choir were in the gallery and later a centre platform was erected for organ, choir, pulpit and communion rail at the front of the church.

The Sunday School room has been remodeled. In 1956 an old wood furnace was replaced with a two unit propane gas furnace. In 1975 and in 1988 washrooms were installed respectively.

1896- Ladies Aid was formed. In 1925, at the time of the Church Union, this group became known as the Women's Association. In 1916 the Women's Missionary Society was formed. These two groups united in 1962 and is presently called the United Church Women (U.C.W.). It continues to remain very active providing spiritual and social outreach to the community and beyond.

Berean Friends is a fellowship group that had its beginnings in 1931 and continues very active today. Sunday School had always been a part of Fairfield and is still continuing to provide Christian Education to our young ones.

Our choir has been "making a joyful noise" to the Lord for a long time. In fact, our present organist Bruce Williams has served for forty seven years.

What would we do without our men? They do a great job keeping this 130 year old building in top shape.
