Culpepper Journalism Foundation Award Winners

Culpepper Journalism Foundation 2008 Award Winners

In honor of the 10th anniversary of the Culpepper Journalism Foundation, the executive board honored 10 students with fellowships for the summer of 2008. The students will attend summer journalism programs at universities and then are required to return to their high school staffs and be mentors to their classmates.

Aryeh Feldheim (South Plantation High) won the Comcast Fellowship for his work in television productions. He will attend the Summer Journalism Institute at the University of Florida. Comcast has sponsored the TV fellowship for the last nine years.

Other winners going to SJI include Claire Aronson (Cypress Bay High), Betsy Castro (South Plantation High), Katie Gillen (J.P. Taravella High), Meghan Johnson (Stoneman Douglas High) and Cataline Quintana (Coral Springs High). Stephen Sheehan (Everglades High) stays in Florida as he will attend the program at the University of Miami.

Two students will travel to New York: Krya Berman-Gestring (South Plantation High) going to Parsons and Mariah Ridge-O'Brien (Hollywood Hills High) going to Columbia. Shaina Coogan (Cooper City High) will attend the five-week program at Northwestern University.

Over the last 10 years the CJF has provided nearly $25,000 to assist students who want to continue their journalism work during the summer. For more information contact Alyce Culpepper, Executive Director at 954-587-3060.
