About Safe Haven
Safe Haven is an established secure compound,
located on a rural acreage along the Platte River bottoms. This organization
does and will network and cooperate with local zoos, Humane Societies, SPCA,
Veterinarians, Animal Control and other humane types of organizations to act
as a referral service for lost, escaped or unwanted birds..For those birds
that are deemed to be adoptable, every effort will be made to place them
into the best possible homes.
Purpose
-
to provide safe housing, nutritional diet, emotional support and
rehabilitation for unwanted and/or homeless psitticine birds of all kinds.
( except those with fatal contagious diseases )

to provide a safe haven for neglected pet birds either through
ignorance, lack of education, or in some cases, cruelty.

to provide a nurturing shelter to any endangered psitticines whose
habitat is dwindling, or has, in fact, disappeared.

to educate the consumer public about proper care of exotic birds.

to work at a national level with other avian individuals and
organizations, and be able to assist in the rescue, placement and
rehabilitation of exotic birds in need, or at risk.

Mission Statement

Offer education to prospective bird owners, up-to-date and proper basic
care to current bird owners, and help to provide insight to possible,
complex behavior problems.

Provide a safe avenue for persons who can no longer keep their bird, but
want to insure a quality new home for their pet.

Offer assistance with escaped birds or deliberately released birds, all
of which will be provided for in the same manner as donated birds. All
efforts will be made to return escaped birds to the owner.

Offer and work towards placement of companion birds in nursing homes,
rehabilitation centers, schools, day care centers, and with handicapped
persons.

Free educational brochure will be made available to all interested
parties, containing basic bird care, important pre-purchase information,
avian intellegence, and pro’s and con’s of parrot ownership.
