![]() Bike to run transition in the 1989 Edinboro Triathlon. |
Endurance athletics has been part of my live for a very long
time now. At the age of 8 I started swimming competitively year round which ended
after college. It was at this point where I became interested in Triathlons,
Cycling, and Running. I raced for the Pittsburgh Pro Bike cycling team for
several years (1987-1990) in the Allegheny Cycling Association, and ran the Pittsburgh Marathon 4
times. In 1997 I decided to give cycling another try and by 1999 I was racing for the AZ Cycling team and managed to win the over all point series for the summer Criterium Series held by the ACA. In 2000 the team got new sponsorship and is now the East Suburban Sport Medicine Cycling Team. We are currently 11 members and we have a very strong team this year. Recently in the Fall 2000 I got back into competitive swimming. I now swim for the East Suburban Pittsburgh Y Swim Team (ESPY).

The longest Triathlon I've competed in is the "Liberty to Liberty" starting in New York city and finishing in Philadelphia on the 4th of July. The swim starts on Liberty Island in New York with a 2.5 mile swim around the Statue of Liberty. Then its a 100 mile bike to Philadelphia followed by a 6 mile run finishing at the Liberty Bell. The hot and humid conditions at this time of year make this race difficult, and I was insane enough to do it 4 times. My goal in life (I have no idea why) is to do the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii some day. |
