TIPS!

Tips II and Tips III

love to teach

ball Color Cans-Any can made out of cardboard with a plastic top. Wrap each one in a different color. Fill with things of that color only. Example..the red can will be covered in red paper and hold things like little red toys, red cloth, red crayons, red buttons...etc. Start with your basic colors, red, yellow, blue and green.
ball Coffee Can Tree-Get an old coffee can and wrap it in construction paper. Find a good small branch with lots of little limbs. Fill the can with rocks and stick the limb in tight. Use it throughout the year changing it for the seasons.
Be sure to let the kids decorate it! Keep it on your Science Table.
ball Magic Box: Decorate medium size boxes in each of the basic colors. Make an extra one special for each of the holidays. Example: Christmas Magic Box decorated with trim and old christmas cards you save. Big bow on top. Use these as well as the plain Magic Boxes to draw out story time pieces or any objects you wish to talk about that day.
ball WaterPlay-You need a water table and a wash tub for in-room water play. Use them at least once a week. Change the water color with food color. We just recently let the kids saw a board to fit the middle of the water table. Now they can set their cups, funnels and bottles on it. Cut way down on the spills!
ball Chicken Trays- Save all those bottoms that come on chicken from the store. Clean well and use for paint or glue jobs. Then Recycle.

ball Bean Play-We use our old water table for a bean table. It holds loads of beans of different colors with bottles and small toys. Use any container but make it as large as possible.
ball Rice Play-Get a plastic container (large) for rice play. Use different rice colors and for a surprise slip in some glitter toward the end of the year.
ball Tracing-Grab all the cardboard boxes you can find. Cut out circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, bunnies, bells, tree shapes, hearts etc...in small, medium and large sizes. Kids will use these all year. Big boxes turn into many things with a child's imagination. No really good pre-school teacher passes up a free box!
ball Macaroni Play-There are many different varieties of macaroni availible today in different colors and shapes. Fill a large container with these and add toys that go along with your lesson plans of the day.
