Shields rejects new contract offer

Full back Greg Shields has recejcted the club's offer to extend his contract beyond the end of this upcoming season. Shields said that the club had offered him a very good deal, but he had decided to see out the remainder of his existing contract and then decide his future.

In real terms this means that from December/January onwards he'll be able to sign a pre-contractural agreement with any E.C. - based club and move to that club on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Pars have successful pre-season

With only one pre-season game left, DAFC have had a successful build up in their quest to return to the Premier League.

Wins against Ross County (1-0), Nairn County (8-0), Cardiff City (6-1) and Wigan Athletic (2-1) and a draw against Brechin City (1-1) mean that the team is learning the winning habit again after a poor season 98-99.

The new purchases, centre half Brian Reid and midfielder Eddie May, seem to have settled into the side okay and both are performing well. Andy Smith and Owen Coyle are back scoring goals (if not playing completely convincingly) and backups David Graham and Colin Nish are also scoring and playing well.

Jamie Dolan, Greg Shields, Andy Tod and Stewart Petrie have all been performing excellently and will be key players this season.

One of the worries we fans have for this season is the lack of a real left full back. Chris McGroarty and Richard Huxford have played there pre-season, but neither is suited to the position. It seems the Manager is keen to play Scott Thomson or Jason Dair there instead. The rest of us would like to see the club buy a proper left back!
