As we all know, in all major sports, it's
an honor to get your jersey retired - which means no person after you can
use your number. In hockey this is really something extra. Former greats
such as Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay and Larry Robinson all have
their jerseys retired. Also Mario Lemieux, Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky
can look forward to the moment when they get their jerseys retired.
Five former players on the Hawks have gotten
their jersey retired, either befor or during the 1997-98 season. These
players are Stan Mikita, Bobby Hull, Tony Esposito, Glenn Hall and Denis
Savard.
