Foster Children

Tim Miller

You don't know much about us
Because you don't bother to ask
You could care less
How our lives are

You wonder for a brief moment
When you question us as to whom we live with
Mom or dad or both
And we hastily reply "neither"
But then you go on with your life never again
To think as to what it's like to be
Foster children

You say you hate your parents
because they won't let you stay up late
Be happy of what you have
We come from different situations
But our situations are about the same
Every day we suffer some pain 'cause we're
Foster children

We used to think the same of our parents
'Till we were taken away
We feel guilty about our misconceptions
Yes, some of us were mistreated
Beaten, abused, hurt all the time
So you think our lives are much better
But then again some of us
Are being beaten, abused, and hurt now

Don't judge anybody 'till you walk in their shoes
Our shoes are somewhat uncomfortable
It's easy to not understand us
And it's difficult to understand us
But we are not necessarily "different"

We try just like you try, pray the way you pray
So accept us for who we are
