This is fully an unoffical page for the Department of Agricultural Extension Education. The information are mostly taken from the Annual Report 1993-1995, and Pocket Diary-1997, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh.

As on of the integral part of the Faculty of Agriculture, Bangladesh Agricultural University, this Department initially in the name of Agricultural Extension and Teachers' Training was established in 1964 with a purpose to offer Agricultural Extension courses to both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as to provide training to the teachers of neighboring High Schools in different aspects of agriculture. The department at present offers Agricultural Extension courses to undergraduate levels in all the six Faculties of the BAU. This department, however, offers courses in 2nd, 3rd and 4th years in the Faculty of Agriculture. Masters as well as Ph.D. degrees are also offered from this department. So far five students got their Ph.D. degrees and a quite good number of students who got their M. Sc. (Ag.Ext. Ed.)/MS degrees from this department. Three more Ph.D. research works are now in progress.

Apart from teaching and research this department is also involved in rural development activities since 1966. The department initially started its activities on different aspects of socio-economic and home life improvement of the farmers in three villages - Kazirshimla, Dulalbari, and Baroigram of the Trishal Thana (lowest administrative unit) of Mymensingh district. The project was named as the "Agri-varsity Extension Project (AEP)" in 1977.

In order to provide training to the passed out agricultural graduates as well as other officers of different nation building organizations this Department also created "Graduate Training Institute (GTI) " in 1976. The AEP was renamed as the "Bangladesh Agricultural University Extension Centre (BAUEC) in 1989. However, the GTI and the BAUEC have now become independent insitute and centre respectively with their own statutes. The BAUEC is now working on different aspects of rural social development in 22 neighboring villages of the BAU.
