2 i. Susanah² Short was born Meckenburg County, Virginia Jan. 17, 1761. Susanah died abt. 1873 Stokes County, Virginia. She married John Steagall Meckenburg County, Virginia, Dec. 10, 1785. John was born Brunswick County, Virginia July 7, 1758. John was the son of George Steagall Jr. and Agnes Bottom. John died April 8, 1838 Rockingham, North Carolina, at 79 years of age. At 29 years of age John became the father of Fredrick Steagall Meckenburg, Virginia, Feb. 4, 1788. At 33 years of age John became the father of Thomas Stegall Jan. 22, 1792. At 33 years of age John became the father of John Bayley Stegall Jan. 22, 1792. At 38 years of age John became the father of Mary Ann Stegall Nov. 15, 1796. At 42 years of age John became the father of Wiley Short Stegall North Carolina, April 5, 1801. (See John Steagall for the continuation of this line.)

At 31 years of age Susanah became the mother of John Bayley Stegall Jan. 22, 1792. At 35 years of age Susanah became the mother of Mary Ann Stegall Nov. 15, 1796. At 40 years of age Susanah became the mother of Wiley Short Stegall North Carolina, April 5, 1801.
