The Constitution of the Bangladesh Association of Greater Kansas City (BAGKC)

ARTICLE 1


SECTION 1.
NAME: The name of the organization shall be the Bangladesh Association of Greater Kansas City (BAGKC).

SECTION 2.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the organization shall be:

1. Communication: Enhance communication link between the Bangladeshis and Bangalees.
2. Friendship: Foster family ties, fraternity, and a spirit of association among the Bangladeshis and Bangalees.
3. Education: Stimulate effective learning and knowledge sharing among members.
4. Community Development: Influence Bangladeshi/Bangalee community development both here in the USA, and Bangladesh.

ARTICLE 2

SECTION 1.
ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP:
Membership is open to Bangladeshi/Banglee living in the greater Kansas City area. General membership will also be open to anyone interested in advancement of friendship and fraternity among Bangladeshis /Bangalees living in the USA.

SECTION 2.
CLASSES OF MEMBERSHIP: There should be three classes of memberships:
1. GENERAL MEMBER: Shall include all registered members.
2. STUDENT MEMBER: Shall include all students enrolled in the greater Kansas City area. Student member can vote but can not run for office.
3. HONORARY MEMBERSHIP: Shall include all others. Honorary members can not vote or run for office.

SECTION 3.
MEMBERSHIP DUES: Annual membership dues shall be fixed on a year to year basis in a general meeting by a two-third majority. They are payable during month of December. Membership shall be on a year to year basis, and shall be automatically canceled by nonpayment of dues. Dues should be mailed to the treasurer. Membership is free to students, however, if a student wants to run for office, he/she must be a general member.

SECTION 4.
RIGHTS OF MEMBERSHIP: All members shall have the privilege of:
1. Voice and vote at all general meetings of the Association.
2. Receiving all publications of the Association.
3. Being eligible for election to office.

ARTICLE 3

SECTION 1.
The establishment of general policy of the Association in the interim between annual meetings is delegated by the membership to an Executive Committee constituted as follows: 1. The elected officers of the Association: President, Vice- President, General Secretary, Treasurer and Executive Members. 2. Advisors elected by the Executive Committee.

SECTION 2.
The direction of the day to day business of the Association is delegated to the duly elected officers of the Association.

SECTION 3.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Officers shall be elected at the annual meeting for a term of one year. Individual candidates can be presented or nominated by any member at the annual business meeting. Any new members of the Executive Committee shall be announced at the annual meeting. Any member of the Executive Committee may succeed his/her term of office.

SECTION 4.
DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD:

1. PRESIDENT:
(a) Shall have control over all general matters pertaining to BAGKC
(b) Shall serve as Chairperson of the Executive Committee.
(c) Shall call meetings of the Executive Committee when necessary.
(d) Shall call special Association meetings if deemed necessary.
(e) Shall be responsible for the planning and conducting of the annual business meeting.

2. VICE-PRESIDENT
(a) Shall assume the duties of the President in case of absence or incapacitation of the President.
(b) Shall serve in any other capacity deemed necessary by the President.

3. GENERAL SECRETARY
(a) Shall act as repository for all minutes, records, and publications for the Association.
(b) Shall take minutes for all Association meetings and shall be responsible for their publication when necessary.
(c) Shall prepare and distribute to all Executive Committee members a list of all BAGKC members.
(d) Shall be responsible for BAGKC correspondence as deemed necessary by the Executive Committee.
(e) Shall be responsible for printing and distributing of newsletters.

4. TREASURER
(a) Shall collect all dues for the BAGKC.
(b) Shall handle all the financial business of the Association and keep accurate books of all transactions.

5. EXECUTIVE MEMBERS
(a) Shall attend the monthly meetings.
(b) Shall implement responsibilities assigned by the Executive Committee.
(c) Will have equal voting rights as the Committee members.

6. ADVISORS
(a) Will provide valuable advice and suggestions.
(b) May succeed his/her term of office.
