Alana's Shawnee Pottery
I love to collect Shawnee...
I have decided to start a Shawnee Pottery page.
I thought I might include a few of my own pieces,
a little bit of history about Shawnee.
I have added current values from a reliable source.
I have been collecting Shawnee for about seven years.
I am always on the prowl for more pieces.
If you have a piece that you think I might like to purchase,
please feel free to e-mail me.
I really like the teapots and the cookie jars.
So check back often as I add more details.
The Shawnee Pottery company began operations on 1937 in Zanesville, Ohio.
While inspecting the grounds on the old American Encaustic Tiling Company,
the future home on the Shawnee Pottery Company,
Malcolm A. Schweiker discovered an Indian arrowhead.
This arrowhead became the trademark of the Shawnee Pottery Company.
It is believed that that the shawnee factory was located on the site of a Shawnee Indian Village.
The Shawnee Indians are believed to be the first craftsmen in that area to produce pottery from the Zanesville clays.
The company produced about 100,000 pieces of pottery per day.
Shawnee produced a large selection of
kitchenware, dinnerware and decorative art pottery.
The company closed in 1961.
