HENRY GREGORY was the ancestor of one of the 
most extensive Gregory families in America. His name 
first appears in Nottinghamshire, England. He was 
born in 1570 and was one of the younger branch of the 
Highhurst Gregorys. When quite an old man he 
emigrated (about 1635-36) with his wife, ELIZABETH 
and several grown children, to Boston, Ma. Soon he 
moved to the new settlement at Springfield, Ma.  In 
1639 moved to Stratford, Conn., where Elizabeth died 
1640-42 and Henry in 1650.

  i. JOHN GREGORY was born in Nottinghamshire, 
England, and baptized on 16 Dec. 1618. He was married 
in England (SARAH St. John?) and they already had a 
child when he came with his father to America. He 
went to New Haven, Conn. In 1650 he became one of the 
original settlers of Norwalk and was a member of the 
General Assembly.

  i. JUDAH GREGORY married 20 Oct. 1664 to 
HANNAH HAITE, daughter of Walter Haite of Norwalk. He 
journeyed north from Norwalk with several others and 
in 1685 became one of the original settlers of 
Danbury, Conn.

   i. EPHRIAM GREGORY was born at Danbury in 
1739. Married  ESTHER STEVENS.  He died 6 Nov. 1775 
and was buried in the old cemetery on Main Street in 
Danbury, where the marker still stands (as of 1921).  
Esther died 25 Jan. 1819, aged 74 yrs.

   i. SAMUEL GREGORY born 5 Nov.1764.  Married 
LORANA OLMSTEAD, daughter of Stephen and Hannah 
(Benedict) Olmstead. Samuel died 19 May 1830.

   i. MILES GREGORY born 26 Nov 1784.  Married 
ANNIS BRONSON, daughter of Ezra and Anna (Knapp) 
Bronson.After their marriage they lived for some time 
in Danbury, Conn. Later they moved to Newburg, NY, 
but returned to the Mill Plain section of Danbury.
Miles died 7 Nov.1828. Buried in the Mill Plain 
Cemetery.

home in Amityville and wintered near Miami where they had orange groves. Wm. died 30 Jun 1927.

   i. GLADYS Dell Marsh born 24 apr. 1895. 
Married 15 Sept.1928 to JAMES GILFILLAN THOMPSON, 
(b.26 Dec.1868). He was president of First National 
Bank Middleburg, Pa. After his death 2 Feb. 1942 
Gladys and her daughter moved to Selinsgrove, 
Pa.where she lived until her death 21 Sept. 1982.
