Water temperature plays a big role on how fast your guppies will grow. I recommend that you buy a submersible heater with a built in thermostat and a thermometer. Preferably a Visi Therm or a Acura 1000 heater. If the room that your guppies are in is not heated, than the measuring for the amount of wattage your heater should be, is 1 watt per a liter of water. (Ex. If your room is not heated and your guppies are in a ten gallon tank than you would need a 50 watt heater.) If your room is heated than it would 0.3-0.5 watt per a liter of water. If you buy a heater that is to powerful for your tank than the water may become tot hot which in turn might kill your guppies. Once you have bought your heater, rinse it under water, and then place it in your tank. Set your temperature for about 74 degrees Fahrenheit. Wait about an hour or until the temperature reaches 74 degrees Fahrenheit. Then you may turn up the temperature to 76-78 degrees Fahrenheit. This range of temperature is ideal for guppies. This will also help your guppies mature faster. If you do not want your guppies to mature faster than set your temperature lower. I recommend that you do not go lower than 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Another good reason to have a heater is that when female guppies are about to give birth you will yield more baby guppies. If you would like more baby guppies than I would set the temperature to about 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit when the female is about to give birth. This is not a miracle machine so you will not always yield more baby guppies than usual. Once the female guppy has given birth than set the temperature back to the original temperature you decided to have for your guppies. Take out the baby guppies and then place them in a separate tank. Get another heater if you do not have one already, then place the heater in the tank with the baby guppies and set the temperature at 80 degrees Fahrenheit for about 3 months. Then reduce the temperature to about 76-78 degrees Fahrenheit. This will help the baby guppies to mature faster. If you do not want to put a heater in your guppy tank(s) for some reason than your guppies will mature slower.
