MYKONOS

My friends left on a mini-cruise partway thru the trip and one stop was on the island of Mykonos. This windmill picture is one they took as they approached the island.

PALACE of KNOSSOS, CRETE

Before the Greek civilization began, there was the Minoan civilization on the eastern side of the island of Crete, in Knossos. Below is a part of a palace wall and a close-up of a mural of the ancient civilization on that same wall.

GORGE of SAMARIA

We decided to hike thru the Gorge of Samaria on the western side of the island of Crete. The hike is 16 kilometers (about 10 miles) long and took almost 8 hours. We left at about 8:30 AM and were finished by about 4:00 PM.

Here are two views of the gorge, close to the beginning on the left and me (right) coming out of the gorge close to the end of the hike.

THE LIGHTHOUSE

lighthouse in Chania

This lighthouse is on the western side of Crete, in a town called Chania. What a pretty site at sunset, just one more memory of a wonderful trip.
