Tauberbischofsheim, Germany |
THEIR STORY
LONGIN WEIGAND, son of Joseph Weigand and Regina Kraus, emigrated from Baden, Germany to New Jersey in 1885. He married ANNA MARIE MOOSBRUGGER in Newark, NJ. She was the daughter of John Moosbrugger and Christina Wohlgenaus of Voralberg, Austria. They had five children: Longin , Vincent, R. Irene, Harry and Alvin lived with them in the United States. The family moved to a farm in Mays Landing, NJ, near Atlantic City.
Al married Peg Wilson and they moved to the farm where their two daughters,Sally and Delores, were born. A devastating fire drove them from the farm but they remained in Atlantic City until after the birth of their son, Alvin. Soon they moved to suburban Philadelphia where Harry Weigand and Irene Weigand lived.
Irene married Frank Rodgers and had two children, Frank and Reenie.
Harry married Betty Rankin and the couple had three children, Vickie, Gordon and Bill.
These family members lived in the greater Philadelphia region. Vincent fought for the US in WWI and remained in NJ.
TAUBERBISCHOFSHEIM
Prehistoric remains show that as early as 2000 BC the area was inhabited. This typical medieval town received its town charter around 1275 and work began on the town defences and the castle. The built-up area of Tauberbischofsheim has increased four-fold since World War II. Approximately 6,000 people are employed here and it is home to a fencing club that has won many Olympic medals.
