This Old Heart

Who am I?

I'm a second generation American of Dutch descent. I was born in Long Beach, and raised in Monterey Park and I call Southern California my home. I'm a Pharmacist, and I graduated from USC. I've done a bit of every type of pharmacy, from retail, hospital, management, to consulting, and even a bit of teaching...

What do I enjoy doing?

Riding is a way of life. I've got a horse named William, and I'm learning Dressage (currently at Level Three). There's that word again, Dressage. Dressage develops the horse's physique and suppleness and improves the horse's three natural gaits, making it a pleasure to ride. Dressage is considered "classical training" and has been a competitive equestrian sport throughout the world. It first became an Olympic sport in 1912, and the United States has won the Olympic Bronze Team Medal in Dressage in 1976, 1992, 1996 and 2000. Go USA...

I also play a pretty mean game of tennis, and like my riding, I don't take any prisoners. I play to win.

I'm an Anglophile. I love afternoon tea, the atmosphere, the food and the company. What better way to complete an afternoon of shopping than to settle back with a cup of hot tea, scones, jam and clotted cream. Over the years, I've accumulated a wonderful collection of tea cups, saucers and teapots. I was taught how to make the perfect scone by a close family friend; a secret family recipe passed down for generations. Don't ask for it, it's a secret. If you're one of the lucky few, I'll invite you for afternoon tea. Close your eyes, and imagine a white gazebo sitting in the corner of a beautiful English garden, surrounded by Roses and Star Jasmine. The aroma of freshly baked scones lingering in the warm afternoon air. Pull up a chair...

That's me in the middle of things...

Mountain biking with friends. This picture was taken at the top of Cogswell Dam during a charity fun ride. We're smiling because the hardest part of the ride is over, it's all down hill from here.
