Special Program Features of Alpha



***Weekly individual counseling for the children at school for such problems as divorce, adjusting to stepparents/stepfamilies, grief/loss issues, depression, low self-esteem, parental substance abuse, and behavior problems.

***Weekly small group counseling for learning conflict resolution and peer pressure resistance skills, building friendships, and dealing with feelings.

***Daily Temperature Reading for sharing feelings and thoughts and Star of the Week recognizing strengths in one another.

***Weekly class meetings for students to show appreciation for one another, to solve problems, and to present weekly awards.

***Incentive program for students which includes Flying Golden Eagle Awards, Terrific Kid Klub Awards (TKK), Friendship Club Awards, ICU Awards, and Dreamer/Doer Awards.

***Parents' Night Out which offers parents and counselors the opportunity to discuss new ways of dealing with the difficulties encountered in child rearing. Free child care is provided on site, and refreshments are served.

***In-home counseling servicesto determine family goals and needs and to assess progress and problems.

***Low student/teacher rato in the classroom, individualized attention and instruction, and educational enhancements.

***A Summer Bridge Program to prepare students to meet the challenges of the next school level. This program is free of charge and activities include academics, counseling, weekly field trips, arts and crafts, speakers, and computer-related activites.
