This is the essence of what we do. Whether or not the old veterans live out this dream on some plain of Valhalla is not known, but we of the Mississippi Signals certainly live it out on the fields of England. |
THE MISSISSIPPI SIGNALS TODAY |
The unit was formed in the late 90`s by Kevin holden & Steve Carver, with the help of our american friends B.A. & Rob.
Today the unit mainly from the Central England CSA and we are members of the 'AMERICAN CIVIL WAR SOCIETY' of Great Britain. the Mississippi Signals Detachment works hard at being authentic in its uniforms & equipment. The correct signals drill of the 'Civil War' period is practised. |
HOW TO GET INVOLVED |
All that is required to join this unit is an interest, time, and the money to uniform and equip yourself. Uniforms can be purchased, from sutlers costing around £50 to £100. |
WHERE DO THE BATTLES TAKE PLACE? |
The simple answer is anywhere. Travel is one of the major factors involved with the Civil War Society. Battles take place between April and October, and most take place within a 2-4 hour drive of the West Midlands. |
WHERE DO I SLEEP? |
There are two camps on site,
one is the authentic camp, white tents etc., or the family camp, with caravans
and modern tents.
The Mississippi Signals is based mostly on the authentic camp. If all your family takes part, they don`t have to stay on the family camp, they are all welcome on the authentic camp as long as they wear authentic clothing while on camp. |
WHERE DO I GET THE EQUIPMENT? |
There are several sources. "Sutlers" in the society make and sell leather work, shirts, coats, trousers etc... We can tell you where all these goods can be found. If you wish to know any more, please ask. |
