1926/27 Inaugural Season
  • September 26, 1926 -- Group of 73 investors led by Charles Hughes purchase team 
  • November 18, 1926 -- First Game (lost to Boston Bruins) 
  • Played at Border City Arena, Windsor 
  • Called "Detroit Cougars" because majority of Player's were from Victoria Cougars, British Columbia, CN - a member of Western Hockey League which competed with NHL 
  • Finished last place (of 44 games only won 12) 
  • Art Duncan, first manager, also player and team captain

  • Arrival of Jack adams as coach, beginning of 35 year association with team
