Kevin Morrison and Aneurin Thomas showed Aber exactly what they were missing out on as Newtown ran out 4-0 winners at Latham Park last night. The tragedy is that it all went so well for the first twenty minutes. Newtown only had four chances to take the lead, Jock handled the ball on the line and Stu saved the ensuing penalty kick from Morrison. Andy Evans even forced the Newtown 'keeper Barton into a save. Then, after 20 mins, Andy swore at the linesman as he does during every game when he gets called offside. Without even consulting the linesman or speaking to Andy the referee sent him off and the game was as good as over. With Gavin out for the rest of the season, Ryan not fit, but on the bench and Glyn isolated up front the game was as good as over.
Four second half goals wrapped the game up for Newtown, the pick an amazing overhead bicycle kick by Kevin Morrison. You might remember him, he left Aber for Newtown because he didn't get on with the manager, a Mr Meirion Appleton. He's only scoreed 37 goals this season for Mid Wales' 'other' team. Aneurin Thomas was showing just what an accomplished centre-back he has become since he left Aber for the Robins. Bizarrely enough Appy let him go. Thankfully Jonathan Williams was injured and wasn't showing off his midfield skills that have blossomed since he was allowed to leave Park Avenue, by Meirion. Can anyone see a link developing here?
Gavin Allen has apparently damaged ligaments and cartilage in his leg. No-one appears to be sure how serious this damage is at the moment, but obviously Gav's entire career could be hanging in the balance. We all wish him well and hope his recovery is speedy and he's back playing better than ever next season.
Johnny Morris is the latest in a long line of promising players who have left the club over the past four years having had a dispute with the manager, Meirion Appleton. Apparently John was less than impressed with the treatment he received following an injury he picked up compared to the way Appy has bent over backwards for Gav following his injury on Saturday. Appy is said to have turned round and told John simply that Gav was more important. On hearing this Johnny decided that Appy obviously didn't rate his services enough and has left the club. Our loss will undoubtedly be somebody else's gain! Surely this is not the kind of thing to say to a member of a squad. Football is a team game, and while Gav is undoubtedly the star of the team at the moment, surely Appy should be looking after all of his players with the same degree of effort.

Glyndwr scored three and hit the post to set up Griff's goal as Aber managed to beat a Welshpool side packed full of youngsters. Aber didn't play particularly well, but they didn't have to. Glyndwr had by far his best game for Aber, playing up front from
the start he was a constant threat to the Welshpool defence whether he had the ball or was trying to get it back. Andy Evans ran hard and won a lot of balls in the air. Hayden and Leigh both played well, attacking down the flanks and giving the Aber attack the inspiration that the midfield failed to provide. Griff played well getting forward and charging around like a madman, but once again Dave Parry went awol for large quantities of the game. In the program Rhun put him down as one to watch for next season. And considering he's, played every game this season and is still young you would have thought so. However, the sooner Appy accepts the fact that he's rubbish and either plays Wyn instead of him or buys a new midfielder Aber are never going to trouble anyone.
During the second half Gavin Allen was stretchered off with both legs strapped together somewhat ominously an ambulance appeared later in the half. As soon as I can find out anything about Gav's condition I'll let you know.
Next Season apparently Kevin Morrison could be coming back as player-manager with Appy being moved up as Director of Football. Also there are rumours that Stu could be retiring. There is some debate as to whether this is because he wants to or whether he is simply bargaining for a better wage. At the moment he is the lowest paid player in the team. Hopefully Stu is simply bargaining, because if we don't have him next season then we're buggered!
Aber's next match is on Tuesday at Newtown. Our last league game is at Llansantffraid, and we face TNS in the CWFC on Wednesday week at Caersws in the last game of the season.
