Grob's Surfing in mainland Portugal - West Coast (South Zone).

Santo Amaro

Santo Amaro beach sits right in front of the city of Oeiras, a mere 10 minutes from the centre of Lisbon. It's definitely worth checking out if the neighbouring Carcavelos beach is unsurfable and the wind is blowing from the north or west quadrants.
Although the break is not half as consistent as Carcavelos, and the waters tend to smell, it does have its share of excellent days every year. Being the logical alternative to a blown out Carcavelos, it can get crowded on a good day, mainly because the beach is less than a fifth of Carcavelos' length and there is only one peak, on the far right side of the beach. Getting in and out is fairly simple, although you'd better be on the look for the rocks on the inside.
As in most beaches in Linha do Estoril, access is excellent and you can find places to eat within walking distance (including the ever-present McDonald's). There is a small parking lot overlooking the spot. You can find all the commodities in Oeiras.
