![]() Most action sports arrive in Portugal years after they were invented and surfing is a blatant example of this. It is said that it was introduced here by a portuguese who brought a board from the US, in the late sixties or so. Only ten years later did surfing begin to gain acceptance, partly because until then surfing gear was both difficult to find and expensive. Starting in the mid-eighties, surfing started growing sensibly, the number of surfers raising faster by the year. Today there is a large community covering all of the portuguese coastline.
