The most popular spot in the area, partly because of the world class
surfing events that take place here regularly. It's located some 5
km north of Ericeira village. Basically it's a bay with rocky bottom,
facing west, the swells coming in generally from the northwest. Paddling
out is usually straightforward: one get's in on the far left side
of the beach near the cliff and paddles straight into the breaking
waves. Once past the inside, just go for the peak. Ribeira d'Ilhas
handles surf from ½ m to 4 m (2 to 15 ft) and breaks mainly to the
right. |
