Field of Dreams: A View (Contributed by Butch Guitarte - from a candy wrapper)
It was a clear, sunny day. The sky was light blue and a gentle, invigorating breeze was blowing from the north. It was a perfect day to be outdoors!
The field was immense- the freshly mowed turf was green and lush and the ground was packed with rich, brown earth. An abundance of trees surround the outlying areas. Some, tall as a two story house, provided shade and seemed to beckon to those in need of respite. Many bore a variety of fruits and flowers that filled the air with a sweet, pleasant aroma. The view was so enchanting it made me pause for a moment in awe and admiration. Through all this, I was astonished to notice an apparent absence of any kind of barrier. No gates, no fences, nothing except for the trees. I couldn't help but feel a sense of unrestrained freedom.
There was an exodus of people from every conceivable direction. Young and old, big or small, they came. I recognized some familiar faces but was unable to place a name on so many more. A small group was engaged in lively banter and there was laughter and cheering from somewhere else in the crowd. Something was about to unravel and it was obvious that everyone was waiting in guarded anticipation. All this time, everyone was having a great time. It was in this state of revelry that almost made me oblivious to one stark fact: everyone was garbed in the traditional red and white colors. Sure, only a few were of a bright, crisp hue; most were of varying shades worn down over time. Even then, how could I have missed it?
BEDANS ALL. It's all that matters. Together. United. As ONE.
