With experts you will go behind the scenes of Human Resources departments to understand how they operate, turning it to your advantage; explore job market trends and opportunities in the for profit and not-for-profit sectors; and learn successful job-search steps and how to position yourself and make the most of career twists, turns, and breaks to identify and obtain the position of your choice.

SPEAKERS:
Anita Brick's two-decade career spans corporate, entrepreneurial, and
academic sectors. Her background includes: a tenure as Product Manager at a large
commercial bank; VP of Marketing for a start-up financial network; an equity stakeholder
in a firm specializing in organizational development and career management services; and
creative communications director of a motivation and media development firm. She has
written, lectured, and been quoted in the media about career management, executive
development, and motivational issues. Brick has served as a contributor to The Wall Street
Journal's National Business Employment Weekly, The Resourceful Woman, WBBU Radio, and No
Matter What TV. Her two degrees are from the University of Chicago, A.B.in English, and

Phyllis Lev Brust came to the Harris School in 1998 from the Yale School of Organization and Management and Yale University [Asst. Dir. Career Office] and Muhlenberg College [Dir. Career Center]. She has won five awards, including the Award of Excellence (with Michael Jogerst of SSA) and two Best Practice honors from the National Association of Colleges and Employers. She has been published many times--widely reprinted is: "Are You a Mediocre Job Hunter." In 1996 she founded CT, a career consulting practice serving diverse and accomplished clients. Brust is a Certified Professional Resume Writer and certified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Her BS, MS and PhD degrees are from the University of Pennsylvania. return to top
Diane Downs currently serves as a career counselor to law students and alumni, advising them on traditional and non-traditional careers. She is an active member of the National Association for Law Placement, the ABA & the CBA, and has presented at various local and national conferences on the topic of career choice and networking. Ms. Downs received a B.A. in history and philosophy, magna cum laude, from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1994. She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1997. return to top
Beth Hines VP, Business Development with Lee Hecht Harrison- focusing on leadership development, coaching, career management and outplacement . She is responsible for maintaining relationships with organizations in the business community and keeping current with business trends. Hines is licensed in Strategic Leadership Development and a certified trainer in Career Management. In her prior role as VP, Consultant she helped people formulate strategies to further their careers. Her twenty years of professional experience range from private entrepreneur to corporate vice president. She is a committee member of Professional Women's Club of Chicago, a member of Financial Women's Association and board member of the Bottomless Closet. Her BA in Sociology is from the University of North Carolina.

Michael Jogerst following teaching in the Department of Political Science at the University of Iowa, came to Chicago in 1997 to be the Graduate Career Counselor for Master's and Ph.D. students in the arts and sciences, assisting with professional development issues in both academic and non-academic career paths. In 1999 he was appointed Director of Career Services at SSA. In collaboration with the Harris Schools Phyllis Lev Brust and CIR, he was jointly awarded the 2002 Award of Excellence for the best Educational Programming in the country by the National Assoc. of Colleges and Employers for their conference, "Meaningful Careers in a Changing World" which was a response to the events of 9/11. A Rotary International and a Fullbright Scholar, he earned his BA from Western Illinois University, and his MA and PhD from Indiana University. return to top
Chris Keeley is responsible for Human Resources Management for the Universitys non academic and support staff. Prior to coming to the University she was Director of Human Resources at Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis. Chris has an ongoing interest in the applicability of theory and research to problems faced by the practicing human resources professional. She has held a number of leadership positions in HR professional organizations. She is a founding member of the GSBs University of Chicagos Womens Business Group, and she has received a number of awards for her HR work in healthcare and higher education where she has worked for over 25 years. Darlene Lewis' current Uof C Medical Center's responsibilities include
Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Recruitment, Occupational Medicine, Compensation and
Benefits and staff to the Board of Trustees Compensation and Benefits Committee. Prior to
UCH, she was the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resource Services at Vanderbilt
University and Medical Center with oversight responsibility for all human resource
functions. She has directed the Human
Resource function for the
Bob Wilcox's 30-year career spans both private and public sectors. His professional background includes: a tenure as Executive Vice President of a firm specializing in human resources and total career management services; a partnership in an executive search firm; a position as Senior Vice President for an international outplacement firm; and senior human resources positions with a national consulting organization. He has written and lectured about organizational behavior, general management, career development, human relations, retirement planning, and violence in the workplace. His B.A. is from the University of Nebraska, (economics), M.S. from DePaul University, and he is a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. return to top
