On Febuary the 15th the Chess Club held its annual Secondary One Chess Tournament to select members to jon the Chess Club. The response was overwhelming with over 50 students taking part. Due to limitations, only 20 students unfortunatly were selected. A swiss system of 5 rounds was used with the time control as 30 minutes each. Here are the results of the exciting competition.
During the March Holidays, the Singapore Chess Federation organized an Inter-Secondary School Chess Tournament. The tournament was held at Catholic High and the school sent in 20 pupils to enter the Tournament.
In the U-14 Section the school bagged 3 prizes 10th, 20th and 24th and the winners Lim Yin, Yang Enbin and Tan Kwan Chong respectively and in the U-17 section Daniel Lee and Tay Zhiming won the 14th and 25th positions respectively.
Shortly after the March Holidays, our players took part in a Temasek Polytechnic 10 minutes blitz tournament. In the under-14 section, Edwin Kek came in 5th, Alfred Zheng came in 10th, Tan Kwan Chong came in 11th and Yang Enbin came in 16th. In the U-17 section, our captain Chan Sihong came in 19th and Daniel Lee bagged the 8th position.
In the Inter-School Team championships held in June, our school sent in 2 teams in the U-14 division and one for the U-17 division. The U-14 team 'A' comprised of Alfred, Xinghong, Kwan Chong, Enbin, Jeremy Lim and reserves Edwin Kek and Filbert Tay while the 'B', comprised of Lim Yin, Chew Xiang, Aditya, Calvin, Kar Hao and reserves Song Ming and Daniel Ng. In the U-17 Section the team members were Chan Sihong, WenSheng, Eric, Daniel, Michael Lam, ZhiMing.
Our U-14 "A" team emerged national champions with 18.5 out of a possible 25, while the "B" team managed 5th. In the U-17 division we were not as lucky, only getting second but is was still something to cheer about. Below are the results for the U-14 division.
