SIX LIBERTARIAN PRINCIPLES

According to David Nolan, co-founder of the Libertarian Party, there are five principles that all Libertarians share, to which we have added one more:

1. You own yourself; your body and mind, and no external power has the right to force you to serve "society" or "mankind" or any other individual or group, for any purpose. Slavery is wrong. You are therefore responsible for your own well-being. No one should be forced to feed, clothe, house, educate, or provide you with health care, etc.

2. Self- ownership means that you have the right to self-defense (retaliation to initiated force). Libertarians yield to no one in their support of the right to keep and bear arms. Anyone who thinks that any government has the right to disarm its citizens is not a Libertarian.

3. Libertarians believe that individuals have the right to own anything, gold, guns, drugs, sexually explicit material, as long as no one else is harmed by force. Criminal possession laws breed police states. Libertarians are VERY tough on real crime: the use of initiated (1st. strike) force, private or public, against another person or their property.

4. No taxes on productivity. In an ideal world there would be no taxation. All services would be paid for on an as-used basis. For right now some services will be force financed, which means taxes. But some forms of taxation do more damage; e.g. taxes on productivity, like the income tax. Libertarians oppose the income tax, ( and any other tax).

5. Sound money. Legal tender laws which mandate the acceptance of fiat money, paper unbacked by hard assets, as are today's Federal Reserve notes, are a key to Government power over its citizens. This is, quite simply, legal counterfeiting.

6. Conspiracy "theories." The Libertarian Party does not support ANY conspiracy "theory." These theories are unprovable, irrelevant and have zero credibility in the arena of serious political debate.

GENERAL APPLICATION OF PRINCIPLES

IN GENERAL, LIBERTARIANS BELIEVE THAT THE ONLY LEGITIMATE FUNCTIONS OF GOVERNMENT ARE:

THE POLICE; TO PROTECT INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR PROPERTY FROM THEFT AND VIOLENCE,

THE ARMED FORCES; TO PROTECT THE BORDERS FROM FOREIGN AGGRESSION, AND

THE COURT SYSTEM; TO IMPARTIALLY ADJUDICATE UNRESOLVED CONTRACTUAL DISPUTES, AND THEFT AND VIOLENCE BETWEEN PRIVATE PARTIES, OR BETWEEN A PRIVATE PARTY AND THE GOVERNMENT.

THAT’S IT FOLKS! NO FIRE DEPARTMENT, PUBLIC ROADS, PUBLIC SCHOOLS, CONVENTION CENTERS, WELFARE, ETC., ETC., ETC., AD INFINITUM!
