Is it not surprising that insects and microorganisms do not attack the mushroom Lactarius necator and some other antibiotic fungi from Lactarius or Russula family?

This is due to lactarane or marasmane sesquiterpenes, natural antibiotics with lactone or furan ring, antifeedant, and repellent activity.

This is a fact of great importance, as many microorganisms, for example Mycobacterium tuberculosis, have got immune against our so popular and often overused antibiotics.

They are antibiotic resistant bacteria.

The result is the return of many diseases (for example tuberculosis), which became very difficult to cure.

Alternative medicines bring us optimal natural health.

Antibiotics new developments lead to scientific discovery, to sesquiterpenes that are more potent than synthetic chemicals.

New antibiotics from plants and especially from antibiotic fungi may be surprisingly potent in medical praxis.

But they should be investigated.

  1. In 1956 Professor M. Mordarski in his medical search for new antibiotics investigated the bitter white juice of the small ginger mushroom Lactarius rufus. He discovered its antibiotic properties.



  2. Fourteen years later Polish organic chemists isolated a lactone lactarorufin A and other lactones from Lactarius rufus and the olivaceous mushroom Lactarius necator. Sesquiterpene lactones were also isolated from many other Lactarius and Russula antibiotic fungi. They had sharp, bitter taste.



  3. For the last thirty years Polish, Italian and Swedish researchers have been investigating Lactarius and Russula sesquiterpenes and have established their structure. Most of them are lactones with lactarane or marasmane skeleton, some have furan ring in the molecule. Some have antibiotic properties. They bring optimal natural health.



  4. They investigated also their chemical reactions.



  5. Some Lactarius sesquiterpenes, for example lactarorufin A and furandiol have strong repellent, antifeedant activity against certain pests. These natural products have deterrent properties, are deterrents. They are natural antibiotics, too. These properties are scientifically proven.



  6. Natural antibiotics new developments deserve to be further continued. Sesquiterpenes from Russula or Lactarius antibiotic fungi should be used in medical area by a pharmaceutical company. They should be used in alternative medicines. These natural compounds will be mild, selective antibiotics.
