Southern CountryHome of the Swampers - Southern Comfort for all people
Born in the swamp country of South Georgia, I grew up with the razorback swamp hogs and the farm cows. I loved getting up in mornings, jumping in my grandfathers cypress boat and paddling through the lake to the cypress swamps. This was total isolation. Here you could find tadpoles as big as three fingers, bull frogs the size of small rabbits and gators would be on every beach. The quietness was pacifying. Sitting still in the boat, I could hear a Bass jump from out of sight behind some cypress tree. Beavers built their houses and otters swam back and forth. It was the best of times. I felt a sadness as I grew older and had less time for my swamps. Growing older (and I thought . . . wiser), I discovered a whole new life. Sadly, swamps, fishing and peace of mind, took a backseat to everything else. I moved around the country and the world, eventually heading back to my swampland. It was changed. Pop (my grandfather) was long dead, clubs and houses lined the lakes, creeks and swamps. There were no quiet spots. Speed boats had taken the place of our cypress paddle boats. Swamp life had changed. I now make my home in the panhandle of Florida. I keep my heritage with me. I am an American by birth and a Southerner by the grace of God. I claim my Southern heritage. I hate no man but am a true Rebel at heart. I was born a Confederate and will live and die in Dixie. I will gladly share my swamp stories, my swamp recipes, and my heritage.
