Characterization |

Welcome to Our Characterization Page |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
If you are going to experience a Renaissance Faire, rest assured there is no required dress code. Whatever you feel most comfortable in is fine. Yet you may want to experience the entire magic of the Ren Faire experience by donning a costume and adopting a character. This page will hopefully give you an idea of how to do just that. |

First of all, you must create a character/Alter Ego. This character should be a reflection of yourself. Your character should be based on your personality and your interests. This makes it much easier to STAY in character while at the faire. If you try a persona that is different than your normal self, you will always have to remember to be IN character. |

To get started we have provided you with a brief questionaire that will help you create a character. Click Here |

If you are new to the faire experience, we suggest you go for a simple, inexpensive character. This character is the PEASANT. Peasants came in many shapes and sizes. They ranged from beggers to Blacksmiths to Bar Maids. These highly visible people made up a very large section of society. There clothing usually depicted their very occupation. Again pattering your character as yourself helps a lot in creating a convincable character. If you are loud and boistrous you may want to be a minstrel or a jester. If your quite and conservative a pastor's wife or seamstress may suite you. In any case choose something you will be comfortable doing. As we stated Peasant costumes are quite easy to make and very inexpensive feel free to visit our costuming site to to get more information on Peasant costumes. |

If you have the money and time to spend, you may decide to try be a noble instead. The nobles were the people in power, and because of that dressed the part. Nobility made there presence know by the dress. If you were noble you wore expensive fabrics, usually velvets, satins etc. We do not recommend taking on a noble persona if you are new to the faire experience, but if you want to we can help you. You can visit our costuming area for information on Noble costumes. |

When creating your character it sometimes isn't enough to look the part you must also act the part. A good way of accomplishing this is to learn some of the language that was spoken in the Renaissance/Medieval times. On our Speech page you will find a lot of helpful information concerning the speech used by the people back in those days. Remember, nobody expects you to have a english accent. If you know some of the phrases, the accents is not necessary. Also remember a well dressed character with a horrible accent is a horrible character, But a well dressed character who uses the proper words and phrases is an excellent character. |
