Edgar Cayce's philosophy from his readings suggest that 20% of the influences in our lives can be measured by exterior signs or indicators such as pshchological profiles, astrology, and numerology. 80% of the influence of our lives comes from our own Will. All aspects of our lives that have been created by past actions can be and are altered through the use of our Will.
Will is an essential ingredient to our soul. Our soul is made up of Energy (Spirit or the Life), Mind (the builder), and Will (in fact, free will). Will is essentially always seeing the future. In a sense our real will is already at the point of our ultimate evolution and is trying to guide us to that point. On the other hand, mind sees things from the past. Mind likes to keep us in the status quo. I see mind in its most positve role as an anchor that solidifies a change one has made so as to be able to work on another change and not lose the previous changes.
Will has conscious properties and unconscious properties. The real will is in the unconscious realm. This is a huge subject that has been making slow progress in the scientific community since the 19th century in Western Civilization. It is still quite small today too. Most scientists and whatnot still do not believe in the Will. Well as the psychologist and philosopher William James wrote in his diary on April 30, 1870, "My first act of free will shall be to believe in free will."

Two points about this subject:
These charts were compiled by Mark Thurston, Ph.D. who is the Director of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. They come from the book "The Paradox of FREE WILL. Balancing Personal and Higher Will." For further study about Will, I highly recommend this book. It is very well referenced and documented for extended study after this book.
