Schools and Youth Groups
Want Toastmasters Leaders

Toastmaster's Youth Leadership Program is in high demand in schools and youth groups, according to Win Poundstone, of Tri-City Toastmasters. "Teachers, schools and youth groups have seen the Youth Leadership in action - and they want more! I have a big list of schools that have asked for Toastmaster leaders," says Win, District 3's Youth leadership Coordinator.

The Youth Leadership program is ideal for Scouts, Boys and Girl's Clubs, church groups and many school settings. Those who lead a Youth Leadership Program often report that the experience was one of the most satisfying as a Toastmaster.

Toastmaster Clubs
Support Prescott Youth

    by Cynthia Vann, ATM

Mr. Tom Bockman of Prescott High School though so highly of his students' Youth Leadership experience that he arranged a special requirement that his DCE (Diversified Cooperative Education) students visit the Toastmaster clubs in Prescott. Mr. Bockman visited Smile High Toastmasters to explain the DCE program. His high school students have work study roles with many employers in the local community. Two students, Don Oller and Stephanie Gelinas spoke to Toastmasters about their growing responsibilities, and how Toastmasters can help them. They learn to keep an appointment, perform an icebreaker, and receive constructive feedback.

12 students are sent out every 9 weeks. The students call ahead to let the club know they are coming. Tom Bockman reviews the evaluation forms we fill out for each student; he believes that they are very beneficial for the students' confidence and communication skills.

Toastmasters, we can contribute to community growth even if it isn't in a typical Toastmaster Youth Leadership program. Recently, the Prescott Morning Club was invited back to the high school, and offered a Youth Leadership program especially for the Student Council. We can also give the school the more traditional Toastmaster program when they want us to lead one.
