The Institute of Maya Studies, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in
1971 and affiliated with the Miami Museum of
Science. Our mission is to educate the public on pre-Columbian cultures
of the Americas, with emphasis on the study of the Maya. We have a monthly
newsletter, and four meetings each month. Besides our popular General meeting
on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, we also have a special Travel section
meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, an Art & Archaeology section
meeting on the 4th Wednesday of each month, and our Board of Directors
meeting on the 1st Wednesday of each month. The public is invited to our
General and Section meetings, and all members are welcome to attend the
Directors meeting. General meetings start at 7:30pm, all others start at 8pm
at the Miami Museum of Science, 3280 South Miami Avenue in Miami. The Museum
parking lot can be entered from US1 or from South Miami Avenue, or you may
take Metrorail to the Viscaya station and cross US1 via the pedestrian
bridge. For information on upcoming events, please call our Maya Hotline at
