A Bit About The Secretive One. . .
I try to think logically at times; so I will hazard a guess that, since you have popped in here, you are a bit curious to learn more about me. Just call it feminine intuition though actually . . . I could attempt something dull and long-winded. Such as starting off with like and introduction of, "I was born one warm, summery-type spring day in a small town hospital. . . .." As tempting as it is - I won't. Besides, to be fair, I don't think there was anything exciting to report about my arrival into the world. My mother ``slept`` through the entire event. Yet a lot of mothers, back then, medically aided ``slept`` through their children's birth.
I am a born and raised "Hoosier". . .an odd state nickname that Indiana was given and the residents of it are tagged with. Now back in my junior high days, the evolvation of this state nickname was explained to me as follows:
The early settlers came to this area, built their log cabins, and tilled the land. Now this was *awfully* hard work. . .so naturally they were a wee bit tuckered out at times. So, while they sat inside their homes and someone knocked at their door. . .instead of getting up to answer to it, they would casually call out "Who is there?" Well, naturally over time, this got shortened to "Who's there?" then some would hurriedly sort of slur it so thus sounded like one word instead of two.. . .and thus "Hoosier"! You do not have to accept that story if you don't want to . . . but Hoosiers can be a laid back lot. I reckon it would make sense to some folks in that is *how* the term came about. Yet I have been told that Hoosier stems from the Civil War time period and a couple of other reasons, not related at all to slurring two words together.
