What is a webring??? A webring is a free service that groups webpages of similar topics together, making them more accessable to the viewing public. The major consequence of joining a webring is that it provides an increase in hits to the individual webpages.
What is the purpose of The Billy Yank Webring??? At this time, there are no Civil War related webrings that specifically address the part played by the Union. There are rings that bring together Southern oriented pages, civilian pages, reenacting pages, and general information pages. This ring is designed to fill that gap. It is my hope that this webring can be used along side the other Civil War webrings. By doing this, I feel the Civil War would be presented in a complete and respectable manner.
Who can apply to this webring??? Any webpage that promotes the Federal role in the Civil War is eligable. These may include reenacting homepages, historical reference homepages, or general reference pages relating to the Union. Although post-war, pages relating to the GAR are accepted. I will also accept those pages that are neutral. (ie. Music, Poetry, Battle Information, etc.)
Just a few guidelines 1. The page should be made with competent use of HTML. 2. The page should use good spelling and grammar. 3. The page should be comprised of more that just links. 4. The webring banner must be easily accessable. If it isn't going to be located on the front page, then I would prefer that it be place on a page specifically set aside for webrings. (I don't want to have to dig through your entire site to find it.) 5. The webpage must be 'G' rated. (No pornography, or links to.) 6. And finally, to avoid any hassles, I am not going to allow any commercial sites.
OK, I think I qualify...Now what??? The next thing to do is to apply to the queue. To do this, you can use the form located below. Having filled out the form, you will then need to cut and paste the HTML fragment to your webpage, and copy the images to your server. Once you have done all that, I will visit your page.
