Background:

My father was a miner, as well as his brothers so as a result mining has played an important role in my life. He was what is referred to in the industry as a "Tramp Miner". Meaning that we would move to one job site till it was complete then on to another. As a result, I've been fortunate enough to have lived in 4 different provinces and 2 states.

I began my mining career purely by accident in 1975 after completing High School In Québec. While travelling west, my motorcycle broke down just 20 miles from my home town. Since I didn't have the cash to buy the parts I needed. I applied and reveived a job with one of the local mining companies who at the time where trainning people from scratch.

As a miner I've had an exciting career, working for 5 different mining companies In 4 different ore bodies,"Uranium", "Nickel","Oil Shale"and "Gold". One of the most exciting mines I worked, was for Detour Lake Mine, Placer Dome Cnd. Located just 70 klm south of James Bay, 2½ hrs from the nearest town. Here we where housed in a complex and lived there for 7 days before returning home for 7 days rest. Sadly it became un-economical to mine the ore that remained there at todays mineral prices, as a result the mine was closed in July of 99.
