Each year we also offer a FREE climbing class. Our basic class, in the fall, is intended for those who have never climbed before or others needing a refresher in the basic skills of traditional roped Alpine climbing. If there is sufficient interest, we may also offer a lead class in the spring, which introduces graduates of the basic class to the art and pseudo-science of leading fifth class rock climbs.

Welcome To
The
Southwest Outdoor Club

The Southwest Outdoor Club was formed over 30 years ago as a way to bring together people of all ages and abilities who feel the need to escape from the shackles of the workplace and take advantage of all that Arizona and the Southwest has to offer out of doors. Whether you are interested in camping, hiking, cycling, kayaking, climbing or just doing some serious power lounging, we have activities that will meet your needs.

For a listing of the activities we have scheduled over the next few weeks, check out our newsletter,
The Adventurer
(Updated 04/24/09)

We normally meet at 7:30 pm on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at the
Pyle Adult Recreation Center
in Tempe, Arizona. The usual format is that members will report on any activities in which they've recently participated before discussing future events that we are planning. If anything appeals, you're welcome to tag along - if not, well hey, there's always next time. Meetings occasionally include a special event, such as a slide presentation or short video film, and are generally followed by a social hour at a local establishment.

You can either send an e-mail to the Webmaster and he'll get back to you within a few days, or call (480) 704-1682 and talk to Wayne. (Wayne's usually faster.) Take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions page first. You might find the answer there.

Please note: The Southwest Outdoor Club is unable to give advice on where to hike/climb/camp/canoe/raft in Arizona. Our links page offers many resources, which will help you plan your trip.

The Southwest Outdoor Club has been proud to receive 2 awards from our web-host service Geocities.
